ABOUT US
Safe Today Initiative Norge is Norwegian based non-governmental organisation and non-partisan platform devoted to environmental and sustainable development issues in Developing Nations, with focus on Africa region. The organisation is dedicated to the provision of quality environmental, health and well-being services to rural communities in the regions affected by extraction industry's operations. As part of Safe Today Initiative mission, organisation is committed to encourage the adaption of participatory communication approach in raising awareness of the plight of local communities to foster better understanding and resolving environmental conflicts between various stakeholders including local communities and extraction industry operating in the region.
OBJECTIVES
Our working group have proposed strategies for approaching social, economic, and environmental challenges faced by the host communities towards natural resource development, which involves;
•Planning and implementation of community based activities focusing on rural development, sustainable agriculture, women empowerment and poverty alleviation.
•Campaigning against unethical business activities that seek to perpetuate poverty and to ensure community based relation practices towards sustainable development.
•Designing small-scale income activities for rural settlers to ensure sustainable community development.
•To create awareness of adaptive mechanism of living within the current circumstances via various participatory communication approaches at the community level.
Our preliminary plans include a series of public programs and development of a portfolio of information sources and educational materials. With these tools we will endeavor to educate members of the local community about the various issues like, environmental, social, culture, and economic etc. We are motivated by our belief that stakeholder involvement and balancing power are necessary for strong sustainable community development. We are concerned by the lack of citizen participation in the impact assessment and management plan. To this end, SAFE-TI is committed to play its role towards developing sustainable and environmental policy based on participatory approach and to encourage proliferation of institutions and the federal laws that protect health and environment to ensure effective social impact assessment and management plan towards and to incorporate a balanced approach while establishing environmental policy.
